ARIEL

Dance is a silent art, accompanied by sounds, voices, music even noises, its soul is silent, and that is what makes it fascinating.

"The body cannot lie" (Martha Graham). Dance fills the heart and leaves the intellect as a spectator. This is Compagnie Ariel’s creed.

"My idea of dance was to express the feelings and emotions of humanity…" (Isadora Duncan). Yes, but she did not concern herself with the mastery of the body… "I believe in the formality of the technique and the mastery of the art" (Martha Graham)…

Compagnie Ariel choreographs and produces with these visions in mind. A purely technical dance remains empty, a purely emotional dance is not art. To make ones body sing is a great accomplishment for a dancer but it is only the foundation for a dance, it also takes lights, decorations, music… to make it a performance.

Living in a time where it is emotionally more and more difficult to follow the fast moving technological development that prevails in our world, dance is preeminent in keeping a conscious connection between society and humanity alive, in giving amusement, provoking surprise and sometimes, reflection.

The art of chorography has followed evolution and has enriched the artistic scene with modern and contemporary dance, making dance accessible for each and everyone of us.

In Martha Graham’s footsteps we take up the challenge of being formalistic, mastering technique in the service of artistic expression with its full range of emotions and feelings. This is our passion, a passion we would like to share with you.

Dance is a silent art, accompanied by sounds, voices, music even noises, its soul is silent, and that is what makes it fascinating.
